How does UrCart test products before listing them?

Every product goes through a six-phase test: unboxing & first impression, spec verification, real-world use over 5-14 days, durability, stress testing, and our own photo + listing prep. Roughly 40% of products we sample never make it to the catalog.

How long does the testing process take?

Between 5 and 14 days per product depending on category. Electronics that need thermal/duty-cycle testing take longer; simple kitchen tools take less.

What kinds of products get rejected?

Anything that fails build quality, real-world use, or spec verification — LED lights with visible flicker, USB-C cables that under-deliver wattage, dashcams that drop frames at night, phone stands that tip over, solar lights that die outdoors.

Who actually does the testing?

The UrCart founder and a small in-house team. We do not outsource testing or rely on supplier demos.

Do you publish the test reports?

Test notes inform the product description and any "honest cons" section. A public test-report archive rolls out late 2026.

How is this different from Amazon reviews?

Reviews come from buyers after a few days of ownership. Our tests happen before listing, with the same item used across multiple stress categories, with measurement tools, by the same person.

The six phases

Phase 01 — Unboxing & first impression

Documented unboxing with photos. Confirms packaging quality and that the item matches the listing.

Phase 02 — Spec verification

Dimensions measured, item weighed, materials and stated specs cross-checked against reality.

Phase 03 — Real-world use

Used the way a customer would for 5-14 days — mounted, cooked with, worn, driven, etc.

Phase 04 — Durability & build quality

Flex tests, drop tests where reasonable, repeated on/off cycles, button wear, hinge fatigue.

Phase 05 — Stress tests

Wattage pushed, continuous run, thermal behavior, brightness/flicker measurement, real-device compatibility.

Phase 06 — Photo & listing prep

Only items that pass every prior phase get our own photos and an honest, plain-English listing.

What does not make it

Real examples of products we have tested and rejected: LED ring lights with visible flicker at 50% brightness, USB-C cables rated 100W that failed at 85W, dashcams that dropped frames at night, kitchen knives with plastic tangs marketed as full steel, phone stands that tipped over with anything heavier than a Mini, solar garden lights that stopped working after two weeks outside.
